Stellulata Cohousing began in 2018 with 3 recently retired friends wishing to age in our own neighbourhood in North Canberra. We now have 3 couples in the group and together we planned a small cohousing community.

We formed a company as the most suitable structure in the ACT for designing, building and managing our new home and purchased 24 Angas Street Ainslie. Our design is for three 2-bedroom units plus shared facilities.

The ACT Government selected our proposal as a Demonstration Housing Project to test whether the model will be suitable more generally in the Canberra community. After a lengthy review and approval process, Stellulata Cohousing appointed Alliance Building Group - ACT as the builder in September 2023, with work commencing in October.

After some rain and other minor delays, our building is at lock-up stage. We are delighted to see the wonderful design features emerging from the construction activity.
Choosing a solar power system was always a key decision for us. This is how we approached it and decided to select Solargain to provide our solar energy solution.

Construction of the Stellulata Cohousing building is moving quickly now. Of course, “getting out of the ground” appears to be a slow process but we are optimistic that the concrete slab will be poured before the Christmas.

After five years of waiting for various approvals and procedures, work has finally started at 24 Angas Street, Ainslie. We are very excited about the future but are also remembering the old house.

Who knew air conditioning could be so complicated? We have learned a lot during this project and that includes an appreciation of HVAC – heating, ventilation, and air conditioning.
